Do you remember the childhood saying, “if you love it so much, why don’t you marry it?”
Inspired by the Beyonce song, Put a Ring on It asks what do you value so much that you would want to put a ring on it? What do you want to highlight in your life, that usually goes unrecognized?
It can be any person, place, or thing. Is there a great old building you’d like to see preserved? A favorite food only your grandmother made? The sunset over the ocean? Don’t just knit a literal yarn engagement ring – we want to see the unexpected and the under-appreciated!
YBLA wants you to put a knit or crochet ring on what you love and take a photo of it. YBLA wants photos of knit & crochet (yarn art, whatever) rings attached to the objects of your love. YBLA wants YOUR story about why you love what you love.
The introduction of Put a Ring on It will be in a gallery exhibition at the Manhattan Beach Creative Art Center, June 2014. Please send us a picture of your ring by May 1, 2014 to be included in the exhibition.
“When I was in high school, I was constantly frustrated by the lack of funding for [after school arts programs] that were so integral to who I became as a person – in Texas, all of the funding goes towards sports such as football. I put a ring outside my former debate coach’s classroom to represent how much I valued these teachers and activities in my life.” —Carol
“Our house faced west, and we would actually sit outside and watch the changing colors of the sunset until it got dark. Many of those sunsets and dramatic skies are captured in Arizona Highways Magazine from the late 60′s & early 70′s.
[...] I miss it, I think about it a lot sometimes. [...] I guess what I’m really putting my ring on is the treasured memories of that spectacular landscape.” —Julie
